The Krabbe Translational Research Network (KTRN) meeting gathered for the first time in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in October of 2010.  The KTRN meeting was created to bring together a cohort of clinicians and researchers to accelerate scientific advancements, in hopes of discovering a cure for Krabbe disease.  The Co-Founders, Paul and the late-Sue Rosenau of The Legacy of Angels Foundation strongly believed in fostering a collaborative network where scientists, biochemists, clinicians, genetic counselors, therapists, and the patient voice worked together to cure Krabbe disease. Dr. Maria Escolar, Professor of Pediatrics and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities at the University of Pittsburgh, was awarded a TLOAF grant to lead the KTRN efforts for several years.  In the latter part of 2018, the Foundation decided it was in the best interest of the Krabbe disease research community to facilitate the KTRN meeting utilizing the Gordon Conference Model.

The agenda for the meeting is driven by key opinion leaders in the Krabbe disease space who participate in monthly KTRN Steering Committee conference calls to ensure the meeting remains collaborative, showcases cutting-edge advancements, and allocates time to discuss and establish an action plan to break down the barriers in bringing new therapies to market.  Most importantly, each KTRN meeting provides attendees the opportunity to interact and receives valuable insight from those impacted by the disease, the patients and caregivers.
